The Novae Terrae, volume 1 - second excerpt

"The Novae Terrae, volume 1: Blood War", by Bloodwitch Luz Oscuria
"The Novae Terrae, volume 1: Blood War", by Bloodwitch Luz Oscuria

This is the second excerpt from my novel, "The Novae Terrae, volume 1 : Blood War", in its version translated by Andreea Mirică.

That night, after Tomasz left her home the day before, Eleonore was still in deep thought, pacing her living room. She was annoyed that Tomasz did not seem to realise what she was talking about when she confessed to him that she was looking for an object only he could give her access to. He should have understood that she was referring to the Novae Terrae. Could it be that because of his father’s disappearance when he was just a toddler, he could be ignorant to the fact that he is a Hunter, and to all that that role entails.

She has been trying to get her hands on the Novae Terrae for over 270 years. As she came so near her goal, as she had found the person in charge of guarding it, that person does not seem to know what the object is. Such a shame! Eleonore begins to mumble without realising it, as she sits down on the armchair she had sat on when Tomasz came to meet her earlier. Her eyes fall on her bookcase, which occupies an entire wall. During all these years she has accumulated an impressive number of books on the subject of Vampires, in the hopes of finding others like her. She has never discovered more than one, despite having travelled around the whole world.

Enriqueta Martì had taught her a lot at the start of the twentieth century, but it was not enough since she passed away on May 12, 1913, slaughtered by a fellow inmate in prison. Eleonore had not worried about it then, because she was still convinced that she would find other Vampires like the two of them. But that never happened. Today she is alone and convinced that Maria-Theresa was wrong, that day in 1748 when she told her there were other fangless Vampires.

Now Eleonore has come back to square one, tired of chasing in vain someone who could help her. When she left Maria-Theresa, the latter never resurfaced. Eleonore did not know what happened to her, nor did she know if she was still alive. Maria-Theresa was not a fangless Vampire; however, she was always in the service of those same Vampires. In fact, she acquired immortality so that she could serve them for all eternity. Nevertheless, Eleonore had never learned how Maria-Theresa gained that said immortality, let alone since when she had roamed these lands.
